Financial Stage

The Milestones project has two different cost schemes.

Material costs

This refers to the materials used to construct a Milestone, i.e. cost of wood, glue, veneer, bitumen, dampening, final filter components etc. Current material costs are €2600 for a stereo pair.

NRE costs

NRE stands for non-recurring engineering costs. These are costs made once for all Milestones, e.g. measurement equipment, software, sewing blades, scratch paper, petrol, trial filter components, petrol, etc. To obtain the cost per Milestone, NRE costs must be divided by the amount of Milestones created. The total NRE costs are about €800 (per 09-2005), and increasing during experimenting. This includes the costs for all the filter experiments.

This project is a DIY project, with no intention to make profit whatsoever, and make all information available for free. We do however find it reasonable that if people build the Milestones, they share in the NRE costs. For this purpose, we plan to sell connection boards for the final filter design, and ask an additional 50 euro (less than the price of a good choke!).

Cost per unit

The total cost for a stereo pairs of Milestones can be found by adding the total NRE costs and the material costs all Milestones, and divide by the total amount of Milestones. As the NRE is currently shared by 2 persons, the cost for the Milestones is currently €3000 for a stereo pair.
