Audio Compression

More music can be stored on an iPod by use of audio compression. If too much audio compression is used, music starts to distort. I've performed an extensive listening experiment to investigate the audio quality of the iPod using different settings. This has resulted in the following table:

       

From this table, I advice the following settings:
- AAC 192kbit/s VBR as default setting (good trade-off sound quality and file size).
- AAC 160kbit/s VBR for background music (reduce file size).
- Apple Lossless for critical recordings (preserve sound quality).
